Young triple-threat David Bologna will return to the Broadway cast of Billy Elliot, reprising the role of Michael, which earned him a Tony Award nomination in 2009. Bologna will rotate the part with current cast member Jake Evan Schwencke beginning June 16, playing a limited engagement through August 8 at the Imperial Theatre.
Bologna, who made his Broadway debut in Billy Elliot, joins a cast featuring Jacob Clemente, Michael Dameski, Alex Ko, Liam Redhead and Dayton Tavares as Billy; Kate Hennig as Mrs. Wilkinson; Gregory Jbara as Dad, Carole Shelley as Grandma; Jeff Kready as Tony; Stephanie Kurtzuba as Mum; Joel Hatch as George; Thommie Retter as Mr. Braithwaite; Izzy Hanson-Johnston as Debbie; and Seth Fromowitz and Luke Trevisan as Small Boy.
The cast also includes Rick Hilsabeck, Amber Stone, Donnie Kehr, Ruby Rakos, Stephen Hanna, David Hibbard, J. Austin Eyer, Kylend Hetherington, Liz Pearce, Grady McLeod Bowman, Brad Bradley, C.K. Edwards, David Larsen, Grant Turner, Eric Gunhus, Aaron Kaburick, Merle Louise, Ava DeMary, Eboni Edwards, Georgi James, Marina Micalizza, Tessa Netting, Maddy Novak, Kara Oates, Kendra Tate and Holly Taylor.
Set against the historic British miners' strike of the 1980s, Billy Elliot follows Billy's journey as a boy in a small mining town who, after stumbling across a ballet class while on his way to a boxing lesson, realizes that his future lay not in the boxing ring but on stage as a dancer. Featuring music by Elton John, book and lyrics by Lee Hall, choreography by Peter Darling and direction by Stephen Daldry, the show won 10 Tony Awards in 2009, including Best Musical.
